On the heels of the closing of Scarboro Golf and Country Club’s curling section, in early September the TCA was informed of Weston’s decision to shut down curling for this season (despite inquiries, no official statement was provided by Weston to the TCA as of time of publishing.) These closures represent a big loss to the sport, as well as to the many loyal members who called these clubs home.
This week, rumours began to circulate that perhaps St. George’s would not continue with its curling section this season. These rumours were unsubstantiated as TCA President Danielle Inglis learned after reaching out to St. George’s to get the facts. Curling is continuing at St. George’s this season – make no mistake.
What has happened at some of our golf and country clubs this season is indeed very disturbing. Growing participation in all our clubs so they are vibrant and viable is most important, and the TCA wants to help. That is why the TCA Executive, CurlON, Curling Canada and representatives from clubs across the GTA are coming together as a community to find ways to help encourage growth in curling membership in all clubs. We look forward to keeping you updated as this work progresses.Oct 13th
